9/11 Anniversary Terror Plot

Just after the Preisendt's speech tonight, newcastor's came out with inormation that they had received from homeland security saying the United States has received a threat. The threat stated that car bombs could go off in New York City and Washington DC. There was also threat of bridges and tunnels. One source stated that 3 men would travel from Pakistan to do this on September 11, 2011. The Mayor of New York says, he will take extra precautions, however, he will be taking the subway that day and to treat it as a normal day.

I will update facts or breaking news about this periodically:

--There will be increased towing of illegally parked cars, says Ray Kelly. More preparations on See Something, Say Something hotline on 311

NYPD: New Yorkers should expect more vehicle and subway bag checkpoints, extra security at tunnels, bridges, ferries

The NYPD is stepping up security citywide as U.S. intelligence officials have picked up threat information about possible terror attacks timed with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 on Sunday.
"The threat at this moment has not been corroborated," Mayor Bloomberg said at a Thursday night press conference with Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Janice K. Fedarcyk, the director of the FBI in New York.  "It is credible, but it has not been corroborated. ... but we live in a world where we must take these threats seriously, and we will."
Intelligence collected from overseas over the past day indicates a possible threat involving car bombs as well threats to bridges and tunnels, according to a security official.  The information indicated that three men would travel from Pakistan to the U.S. to carry out an attack.
New York City and Washington, D.C., are mentioned in the non-specific car bomb threats, according to another source.
The NYPD has now increased protective measures citywide Thursday evening.  Kelly said New Yorkers should expect more vehicle checkpoints, subway bag checkpoints, as well as extra security at tunnels, bridges, ferries, infrastructure and places of worship.

"The public is likely to see, and maybe somewhat inconvenienced by, vehicle checkpoints at various locations throughout the city," Kelly said.
Law enforcement authorities will be told to look out  for" three unidentified individuals possibly tied to the threat stream," according to a leading official.  The threat information has specificity and the source it comes from has been credible before, law enforcement sources said.  But the sources stressed they do not know whether these three men exist or if they actually traveled to the U.S.
At the press conference, Fedarcyk said she would not get into the specifics of the source of the threat and whether it was "operational or aspirational."
President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush are set to attend the official 9/11 ceremony at ground zero on Sunday, and security was already expected to be tight downtown.
The intelligence is not specific to individuals and it is still being checked. But officials are taking it seriously and running it to the ground.
A source said the information comes from two separate threat streams.
The Department of Homeland Security acknowledged the latest threat in a statement, noting that intelligence gathered in the raid of Osama bin Laden's compound after he was killed last May showed that al-Qaida is concerned with the symbolism of dates and anniversaries..
"It's accurate that there is specific, credible but unconfirmed threat information. As we always do before important dates like the anniversary of 9/11, we will undoubtedly get more reporting in the coming days," the DHS said. "Sometimes this reporting is credible and warrants intense focus, other times it lacks credibility and is highly unlikely to be reflective of real plots underway."
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement Thursday night state law enforcement agencies were in contact with federal and local agencies.
"All New Yorkers should be cautious and aware as we prepare to commemorate the 9/11 anniversary," he said. "However, there is no reason to panic or allow our spirit of freedom to dampened as we get ready to celebrate the opening of the Ground Zero site this weekend."
Previously planned multi-agency exercises, with the NYPD, Port Authority police, National Guard and transit agency police agencies, will still go on as planned Friday morning at Grand Central, Penn Station and Times Square, Kelly said.
The mayor said the services making the 10th anniversary of 9/11 would go on.
"I can tell you our ceremonies will go on over the weekend exactly the way they were planned," Bloomberg said."

'Gaddafi surrounded' -- Former rebels claim they know where the ousted leader is hiding

A spokesman for Tripoli's new military council says the former rebels know where ousted Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi is hiding, and it is only a matter of time until he is captured or killed.
Anis Sharif says Gaddafi is still in Libya, and has been tracked using human intelligence and technology . Sharif refused to say where he is, but said he is trapped in a 40-mile- (60 kilometer-) radius area surrounded by rebels.
"He can't get out," Sharif says Wednesday. He says the former rebels are preparing to either detain him or kill him.
Locating Gaddafi would help seal the new rulers' hold on the country.
Convoys of Gaddafi loyalists fled across the Sahara into Niger earlier this week.

Just to give you an Idea of a 40-mile-radius that they have him surrounded, here is a 40-mile radius around Philadelphia, PA:

Over 6,000 acres, 16 mile-area-fire in Texas: UPDATE!

Smoke billows from a wildfire in Bastrop County, Texas, on Sunday.

An unchecked wildfire southeast of Austin, Texas, destroyed 300 homes, scorched thousands of acres and stretched across a 16-mile area Monday morning, authorities said.

Another blaze in eastern Texas killed a mother and her 18-month-old child when flames engulfed their mobile home Sunday near Gladewater, the Gregg County Sheriff's Department said.

The fires were among more than 35 across the state, the Texas Forest Service said Monday. Officials said low relative humidity and strong winds from Lee, which made landfall as a tropical storm but has weakened to a tropical depression, fanned the flames.

The outbreak of wildfires prompted Gov. Rick Perry to pull out of Monday's South Carolina forum for Republican presidential candidates and head back to Texas, his office said.

The massive, uncontained fire in Bastrop County, near Austin, was the state's largest on Monday morning. It had destroyed 300 homes and threatened about 1,000 others, officials with the forest service's incident management team reported. About 5,000 residents evacuated as flames approached, officials said.

Satellite images Monday showed the fire stretching over about 25,000 acres, jumping the Colorado River and a highway, the forest service said.

"It was like a storm coming through. You could smell the earth burning," said Julian Ochoa, who was evacuated from a Bastrop subdivision Sunday afternoon.

The 23-year-old grabbed his dog, a toothbrush, his birth certificate and a few pictures as he left. He didn't know Sunday whether his home had survived the blaze.

"All of Bastrop is a giant smoke cloud," he said.

Firefighters planned to use Black Hawk helicopters to douse flames with a mixture of water and fire retardant Monday morning, the incident management team said. Tanker trucks will also be used to battle the blaze.

The fire forced parts of state highways 71 and 21 to shut and additional road closures were expected, fire officials said Sunday.

At least 56 new fires across Texas on Sunday burned about 30,000 acres, the state's fire service said. Fires were reported in at least 17 counties.

Texas is battling its worst fire season in state history. A record 3.5 million acres have burned since the start of the season in November.

Over 400,000 Protest in 'the Million Man March' in Tel Aviv

More than 400,000 Israelis poured into streets across the Jewish state on Saturday to protest the high cost of living, after organisers called for a "million-man march" to revitalise their movement.
The estimated figures were record-breaking, exceeding the 300,000 people who took part in similar demonstration on August 6, and lending new life to the six-week old movement calling for sweeping economic reforms.
Most Israeli media estimated that more than 400,000 people were demonstrating in cities and towns across the Jewish state, taking to the streets shortly after the end of the Jewish Sabbath.
Israeli police declined to give estimates for crowd figures, despite having given them during previous demonstrations.
In Tel Aviv, a vast crowd of mostly young and secular demonstrators chanted slogans skewering Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who protesters accuse of failing to take seriously their calls for sweeping economic change.
"The land of milk and honey, but not for everybody," read one sign carried by a demonstrator in the coastal city. Other protesters waved Israeli flags and chanted against Israel's main supermarket companies, accusing them of unfair pricing.
Addressing the crowd in Tel Aviv, student union president Itzik Shmuli said the turnout showed the continued strength of the movement.
"They told us that the movement was slowing down. Tonight we are showing that it's the opposite," he said.
"We are the new Israelis, determined to continue the fight for a fairer and better society, knowing that it will be long and difficult," he told the cheering protesters.
Protesters called the rallies a "historic" time for Israel.
"When my daughter will be older she will remember with pride that she took part in the largest social protest of Israel's history," said Gali Zeitun, a Tel Aviv teacher who came with her four-year-old daughter.
Adi Markovitch, a 28-year-old graphic artist, said she was taking part in the demonstration because "I want to continue living in my country.
"But how can I do that if I can't make ends meet."

Thousands of Israelis gather to protest against the cost of living in Israel, in a main square in central Tel Aviv on Saturday.
